It’s a bit over due but last month my family and I took a few days off and drove down to the Outer Banks in N.C. for some much, much needed and much over due R&R. This is our first vacation with a decent camera and we got about 400 some random images over the week. I’m still blown away every time I open iPhoto whether I’m setting a narrow depth of field or a fast shutter. I can’t wait until I actually know what I’m doing with it and get some filters or a new lens ![]()

Week in Nag’s Head
Somethin’ Bit Me!!!
So Friday night Jen and I had the rare opportunity to go out and grab some dinner without the kids. Towards the end of the night, we got a call from Jen’s mom who was watching the kids at our place. “Not to alarm you guys, but the dog’s face seems to be swelling up somewhat.” So we wrapped up and got home about a hour later and the dog’s face had gotten much worse. The picture below doesn’t to the swelling justice but we about fell out.I assumed she got bit by something outside since the swelling was isolated to her face and did some quick searches on the “internets”. We then gave her some childern’s Benadryl we had in the cabinet and called the vet in the morning. They said they would’ve given her a shot of Benadryl anyway so we ok. Her face is back to normal today but it was the freakiest thing you’ve ever seen.
Recovering From Surgery
This may be a bit personal for a blog entry but I guess that’s the point of doing a personal blog right? In any case I had a hernia this January and I’ve been living with it for the last 9 months during my relocation, starting a new company and traveling to NYC on business frequently. I had surgery last week and the hernia had gotten much worse over the course of the year so it was a good thing I got it taken care of.I’ve never had surgery of any kind but it’s really painful in my opinion because of the location of it and the fact it’s on the right side where my leg connects. Being that it’s my core I feel it all the time… yelling at the kids, picking up the trash or coughing. It has totally effected my spirits but I know it will be over with before I know it. I should be 100% over the next 6 weeks I hear but so far it’s been a rough 5 days. See you at the skate park then!
Say Hello To Lola
Jen and I decided it was time to get a dog (again). We had a Bassett hound about 6 years ago which we gave to a friend because honestly, it was a horrible choice of pet for us and the wrong time. This time around we did our research and decided a Boxer was our best bet. Usually very smart, family centric and active, she should fit in well with everyone. It’s been 2 weeks since she joined the family and she has adjusted very well and aside from a piddle here and there, she’s doing great. Lola is a female “reverse” brindle. The classic Boxer is colored in a tan coat with a black face dubbed “fawn”. Brindles have darker streaks in their coat giving them a textured or marbleized look. A reverse is just that, a very dark coat with light brown streaks. Reverse brindles are more rare as are white Boxers. This is one of hundreds of shots I took with my new Nikon d40 which I know hardly anything about.
